Another type is the old weathered look.  This comes from antler that has laid on the forest floor for at least a year before someone finds it.  Depending on how long it is exposed to the weather as to how deep or extensive the cracks are.  It is a very popular grip with those who own older Colt SAA pistols, or those wanting to portray that image in their modern shooting irons.  Not always available.
