On this page you will see several different styles of grips.  This is to give you an idea of the types of stag grips that are available.  Some have no bark and are completely polished.  It is very popular and in some cases imitates ivory.

 

Another type is the old weathered look.  This comes from antler that has laid on the forest floor for at least a year before someone finds it.  Depending on how long it is exposed to the weather as to how deep or extensive the cracks are.  It is a very popular grip with those who own older Colt SAA pistols, or those wanting to portray that image in their modern shooting irons.  Not always available.  Another photo shows a set of weathered grips that were dyed a yellow color.  For many years I have had people ask me for a way to turn antler that yellowish color of old, well handled, stag grips.  I have finally discovered a chemical way to do it.  They are slightly more in cost but if that is what you are looking for it will take the place of many years of sun, sweat, oil, dirt, and cleaning fluids.
